SNACK Defense Enemies: Gummy Bears, Dumplings, Mushrooms, and Counters

SNACK Defense's three enemy families — Gummy Bears, Dumplings, Mushrooms — their bosses and behaviors like flying, splitters, and swarms, plus the counter to each one.

SNACK Defense runs on three enemy families: Gummy Bears, Dumplings, and Mushrooms. Bears fill the tutorial and the standard maps, Dumplings rule the hard Dumpling Defense map, and Mushrooms take over Enchanted Forest, Endless, and the Farmer's Market event. Two prep rules pay off on every map: keep at least one anti-air unit equipped, because flying waves punish a grounded-only team, and don't spend all 20 placement slots on one snack — splitters, flyers, and bosses each need a different answer.

Gummy Bears: the family you fight first

The tutorial sets the tone: evil gummy bears chase Pie across a kitchen-style map, and the scripted boss King Evil Bear is deliberately too strong until the Mythic Choco Donut arrives as backup. If that fight looks unwinnable, it's supposed to be.

After the tutorial, bears come in recognizable grades:

  • Blue bears — the base grunts of early waves.
  • Red bears — greedier-looking, angrier variants mixed into the same waves.
  • Yellow "your highness" — a much stronger elite that players learn to respect on sight.
  • Queen Bear — arrives alongside her little minions.
  • King Bear — the final boss on standard maps, also showing up as a mid-run mini-boss.
  • Feather Bear — a named bear threat on Bee's Diner.

Each standard map ends with a boss encounter, typically King Bear and Queen Bear, with mini-bosses appearing midway — and when the final boss arrives, a scripted cutscene brings in an assisting ally, so first clears are more forgiving than they look. Gummy worms run alongside the bear waves; they're the ones that tend to leak, and they get their own counter below.

Bear clusters favor multi-target clearers. Place your AoE where enemies bunch together — path bends, not open straights — instead of chasing single-target stats. The game also announces special wave types like "Tank wave", "Sugar rush", and "Gummy wall"; unlike "Splitters incoming", what these waves actually change isn't known, so treat the announcement as a cue to check your setup rather than a mechanic you can plan around.

Dumplings: weak, but on a hard map

Dumplings are the least documented family, and that simplicity is the whole answer: they are weak, small enemies. Their one confirmed role is the namesake of Dumpling Defense, the hard-difficulty map in the progression order (Candy Defense easy, Enchanted Forest medium, Dumpling Defense hard, Bee's Diner expert). Cheap, low-placement-cost units handle weak Dumplings and small enemies reliably — and they keep earning their slot there, since players tend to retire cheap units too early while chasing rarity. No dumpling-specific names, variants, or bosses are known, so plan Dumpling Defense around waves of small fry rather than a special boss.

Mushrooms: flyers, healers, and high-HP bosses

Mushrooms own Enchanted Forest — a little mushroom forest village in the story — plus Endless runs on that map, and the Farmer's Market event, whose update log warns "The mushrooms are back, and they brought friends."

EnemyWhat's knownWhere it shows up
Toxic MushyGround mushroom, called out by name on arrivalFarmer's Market event
Green MushyGround mushroomFarmer's Market event
Big MushyTankier ground mushroomEnchanted Forest Endless; Farmer's Market event
King MushyBoss with very high HP — one Endless run gave up on killing it ("way too much HP"); first met around wave 81 in a recorded runFarmer's Market event; Enchanted Forest Endless

Healing mushroomObserved restoring other mushrooms' health; heal amount and trigger unknownEnchanted Forest Endless (one recorded observation)

The healing mushroom deserves a note: in one recorded Endless run, a player watched wounded mushrooms recover and asked, "Is that the healing mushroom? Don't be healing them." If your targets stop dying, that's the likely reason — but how much it heals and what triggers it are unknown.

Special mechanics and counters

Flying enemies need anti-air

One player grinding the Update 3 event found the flying mushrooms "so much tankier" — already at wave 85. The fix is a permanent roster slot for anti-air:

  • Melon — your starter hits flying enemies from the first wave and picks up pierce as it levels; never bench it.
  • Boba — hits flyers with 78 range, among the longest in the game.
  • Hot Sauce — able to hit flying since its buff, on top of its splash damage.
  • Banana Split — the limited event unit's scoop splash covers flyers too.

Splitter waves need two-stage coverage

The game announces splitter waves ahead of time. When a splitter breaks, it produces additional enemies — and one recorded final boss split as well. The documented counter is two-stage AoE: one unit breaks the splitter and a second cleans up the pieces (one playthrough used a Popsicle to break and a Soup unit to mop up). A slow effect stretched over the cleanup window makes the combo work; a single damage source just turns one enemy into several.

Bosses strip your slows

Control units apply slowing effects, but bosses and mini-bosses can remove slowing debuffs. Pair slows with real damage rather than leaning on control alone.

Fast worms punish slow attackers

Fast worms slip past slow-attacking units — the most common leak in playthroughs ("the worms are just too flipping fast"). Mix in fast hitters: low damage, rapid attack speed, excellent against fast enemies, and strong when massed and upgraded.

Blueberry swarms and rear spawns (Bee's Diner)

Blueberries arrive in tight groups and overwhelm single-lane defenses. Drop a Bacon early — its frying-pan melee handles the clusters reliably — and stack extra Bacons to cover the main lane. Bee's Diner adds one more surprise: enemies can spawn behind your front line and walk straight to the pie, so keep at least one unit near the rear objectives.

Melting King Bear and Queen Bear

King Bear and Queen Bear arrive as final bosses with heavy health pools. The documented melt: Honey Bear's 40% slow keeps them inside your AoE zones, and stacked max-upgraded Hot Sauce (around 5,000 damage) kills them before they reach the exit. Expect the numbers to scale with the map and wave — recorded runs show a 7,000 HP mini-boss King Bear on an early Candy Defense run, a 13,000 HP King Bear in another, and 70,000–90,000 HP later mini-bosses, while Bee's Diner's King Bear (12,000+ HP) walks straight through unupgraded defenses. Whatever the map, only concentrated, fully upgraded damage chips a bear boss down, so hold your strongest upgraded unit's lane.

The roster grows with updates — Update 3 added the flying Fairy and Flutter Mushies, and the Farmer's Market event teases that the mushrooms "brought friends" — so it's worth re-checking the lineup after each patch. The maps page breaks down each route, and the event guide covers how Farmer's Market runs work.

Preparing your defense

Every snack type has its own placement cap and maps allow 20 snacks total, so a balanced lineup beats a stack of one star: one anti-air unit, fast hitters for worms, AoE depth for splitters and bear clusters, a slow for bosses, and on Bee's Diner a Bacon plan with a rear guard. Match that lineup to the family waiting on your map, check the unit roster for exact stats, and tune the full setup in the best loadout guide. If you're pushing deep mushroom waves, the Endless mode guide covers how the scaling works.
